Our Crime team secured a successful outcome for one of our clients last week, following an eight day trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court. Our client, Mr G, was charged with one count of affray, and his co-defendant, Mr H, was charged with one count of section 20 wounding, one count of section 18 wounding with intent and one count of affray. The charges against the Defendants were brought after an altercation occurred between the Defendants and the Complainant and his brother, which resulted in the Complainant receiving a life-threatening stab wound to the heart. A further friend of the Defendants’ was not charged. The crux of the argument before the Court was, who were the aggressors during the incident? It was our client’s case that the Complainant and his brother approached them outside Mr H’s home, and attacked them. Both he and Mr H acted in self-defence. After six days of evidence, the Jury took just over a day to return a verdict of not guilty for our client, believing his version of events over that of the Complainant and his brother. This brings to an end a year long ordeal for our client awaiting justice; he was of course elated at the positive outcome. Mr G was assisted by solicitor Dawn La Borde and trainee solicitor Danielle Graydon. Counsel for Mr G was Anya Lewis, of Garden Court chambers.
