London Play2Remember is an annual 5-a-side football tournament with a social goal: promoting reconciliation and togetherness through sport. Established in 2014 by Football for Hope, Peace and Unity (FHPU) in collaboration with several community outreach groups, London Play2Remember provides a chance for survivors of genocide and mass atrocities, as well as their supporters, to get together in a spirit of commemoration and hope. The tournament’s goal is to encourage affected communities to integrate and to become active citizens fighting prejudice, intolerance and hatred, using sports, and football in particular, as a tool.Last year we made it to the semi-finals, memorably beating Duncan Lewis on the way, before being knocked out on penalties by Team Rwanda. Here is the news item from last year.
Since then, Wilsons: FC have done some brilliant business in the transfer window and have signed real quality in John Sandiford, Kabir Joshi and Georgios Tsigkas. They join veterans Muhunthan Paramesvaran, Colin Gregory and Daniel Merriman. This year we have been drawn against Duncan Lewis again in the group stage. Captain Adam Spray is looking forward to the contest which he warns, “is sure to be a feisty affair!” The full draw is below:Group 1: Waging Peace, Team Rwanda UK, Team Sudan UK/WP, Club Soccer My Saviour.
