History was made at the Supreme Court yesterday [3rd October 2018] when an appeal was heard before a majority female bench of Justices for the first time. Lady Arden, Lady Black, and the President of the Supreme Court Lady Hale heard the case of D(A Child) UKSC 2018/0064 together with Lord Carnwath and Lord Lloyd-Jones. The case concerns whether a now 19-year-old man, who lacked capacity, was deprived of his liberty at the age of 16 when he was moved into a home with constant supervision.
