Wilsons has been partnering this month with the educational charity Inspire! to run virtual work experience with two Hackney schools – City Academy and Clapton Girls’ Academy.
The students watched videos prepared by our Public Law solicitor Nkiru Okafor in which she talks about her education, career path and current job, and sent in questions to Nkiru to find out more. Nkiru found the students to have been very forthcoming in asking interesting questions, showing genuine interest in law.
Our Immigration solicitors Shahailya Stephenson and Imogen Townley with Public Law partner Katy Robinson, and colleagues from our Immigration and Public Law departments, also reviewed students’ CVs and set the students two optional projects: (1) asking them to feed back on our website and social media presence, and to offer ideas to make this more accessible to a young audience; and (2) asking them to prepare questions and interview a new (fictitious) client, review objective evidence, and draft a letter to the Home Office requesting a grant of refugee status.
The students’ feedback on our website was extremely professionally presented and will be really useful as we revamp our website and social media in coming months.
We were also really pleased to have had an incredible amount of interest in the second project and were very impressed with the students’ level of engagement and insight into our work, as well as the quality of their projects
Wilsons is really grateful to Inspire! for making this possible and a huge thank you to all of the students who took part with such enthusiasm. We’re looking forward to hosting more work experience students from nearby schools in the future, as part of our ongoing commitment to increasing diversity and social mobility within the firm and in the legal profession more widely.
If you attend or work at a school near our offices in Tottenham and would like to discuss the possibility of work experience with us in the future, or would like one of our lawyers to visit your school to talk about their work and a career in law, please contact Katy Robinson at k.robinson@wilsonllp.co.uk.
If you have a family law case you need assistance with, please contact Mavis on 020 8885 7986 to arrange for an appointment with a solicitor in the family team.
