Wilsons Immigration Law Partner Anita Vasisht was invited to talk to BBC Radio London on the day it was announced that Shamima Begum had lost the first stage of her appeal over citizenship.Ms Begum left London in 2015 aged 15 to travel to Syria. She is accused of aligning herself with the Islamic State. She was found in a Syrian refugee camp in February 2019 and former home secretary Sajid Javid stripped her of her UK citizenship later that month. The Special Immigration Appeals Commission (SIAC) ruled on 7 February 2020 that Ms Begum could be stripped of her nationality because she had not been left stateless, stating that she was Bangladeshi by descent. An excerpt of Anita explaining and analysing this high-profile decision can be accessed hereIf you need assistance in connection with a case in SIAC please contact our appointments secretary Dionne on 020 8885 7979 or by email at d.smith@wilsonllp.co.uk.
